“More and more older adults are living in Summit County, attracted by the natural beauty and outdoor lifestyle, creating strength, experience, and diversity within our population, making our town an even better place to live.”*
Approximately 20% of Summit County’s full-time residents are ages 60+ with a much greater number of seniors spending two to four months of the year here. Breckenridge was identified as the fourth fasted growing 65+ population in Colorado in 2021 and remains a popular choice amongst retirees. The number of people aged 65+ across Summit County is expected to continue to grow, and nearly double, to approximately 6600 by year 2030, as the Baby Boomer generation ages.
Our community is dedicated to being an ‘Age Friendly’ community and has worked diligently to identify gaps and challenges for older adults and persons with disabilities throughout our area. The Age Friendly Community Plan offered guidance so these gaps could be bridged and residents could remain in Summit throughout all of their life stages.
Senior Living in Colorado's High Country
Summit County is an incredible place for any outdoor adventurer to retire. Skiing, biking, golf, indoor and outdoor tennis, pickleball, water activities on Lake Dillon, several nordic centers, over 300 miles of hiking trails, there is certainly something here to keep everyone happy, entertained, and healthy. Situated on the western side of the Continental Divide, with three I-70 exits serving our community we are located only an hour from the western side of the Denver metro area and about an hour and 45 minutes from Denver International Airport. This all combines for senior living at it's finest if you ask me!
The Frisco Community and Senior Center is not only a great resource for our community, but also for senior citizens. It's conveniently located pretty centrally in our county, on the south end of Frisco. The senior center offers a variety of senior services, programming, volunteer opportunities, and resource directory for anyone 50+!
